Omega De Ville Ladymatic 9109094531235

A 1966 Omega 18k Yellow Gold Ladymatic Ref. 511.023 is one of those watches that quietly bridges two worlds: classic mid-century refinement and the early era of mechanical watches made with women in mind. Introduced at a time when most ladies’ watches were tiny and simple, the Ladymatic line was remarkable for housing a self-winding movement specifically designed for a feminine wrist. Omega first launched this line in the mid-1950s as one of its first automatic watches made especially for women, a statement of seriousness about mechanical timekeeping that wasn’t common in the era.
Physically, the watch presents with a slender round case in solid 18k yellow gold that feels warm and substantial without being flashy. At just 18mm in width and under 9mm thick, the proportions are delicate and thoughtful, an expression of elegance rather than boldness. The silver dial has aged with character, showing a soft patina that collectors find attractive, and it features a mix of gold-toned and black applied indices that lend the dial an air of quiet sophistication.
The slender pointed stick style hands sweep across the dial with a grace that suits a vintage piece like this, and while this particular example wears an aftermarket lavender strap, the gold-plated Omega buckle ties it back to its original spirit. On the wrist, its presence is refined and personal. It does not shout its pedigree, but those familiar with vintage Omegas will recognize the subtle balance of form and function that made the Ladymatic a quietly progressive choice for discerning women in the early 1960s.
Historically, the Ladymatic sits in an interesting corner of Omega’s catalogue. The collection was never about radical design or technical extremes. Instead, it offered a well-engineered automatic movement in a neatly packaged, elegantly styled case at a moment when automatic calibers were becoming more desirable across the industry. For a woman in 1966 who cared about precision and craft, this was not merely jewelry. It was a watch with real mechanical presence, thoughtfully scaled and finished with a purity of design that still reads as timeless today.
